Nobody else seemed to mind. But here's the thing: it was Brian Blade. And when all I can pick up from the drums is "murmur-murmur-THUMP," I know there's a lot of detail I'm just not hearing. That frustrates me. I was standing in exactly the same spot for about half of Maceo Parker's set -- same acoustics, same crowd size, same speakers, and nothing bothered me at all. But that was a band with a very different musical texture. Honestly, it may have just been me, or where I was standing. Nobody else seemed to mind.
